Hair color, natural curl, and living in the second driest state in the union means fried hair for Leslie. I find myself gazing longingly at the hair commercials and the girls' shiny, smooth, flowing hair. I can't be too jealous because my hair is so EASY---wash, condition, put in a little cream and go. Problem is I have very little control over whether or not it's going to be a bad hair day. The more I manipulate the style of my hair the worse it looks. I have found a few saving graces to calm the frizz I thought I could share;

1. shower in purified water.

2. switch up moisturizing shampoos and conditioners.

3. dry hair with a t-shirt instead of a towel.

4. switch up hair creams, serums, and watery gels--- sometimes even using body lotion.

5. put in product at the precise moment---not too wet, not too dry.

My fav. new trick is putting a drop of lavender oil in my conditioner.

What is sugaring? It occurs to me that I have never explained the differences between sugaring and waxing. Wax comes in a warm pot, but not warm enough to kill bacteria. So in essence you're getting a fresh cesspool of other people's skin cells when you get waxed. The Sugaring mixture is Sugar, Lemon, and Water. Bacteria cannot grow in sugar---it is nature's perfect preservative. Also, I only need to dip into the jar once to remove all the hair on the face. Many ask me if it hurts less---no, sorry, it hurts the same if not more because I have to go over the stubborn hairs more than once. But it kills more hair follicles because the mixture goes deep into the pore to pull the hair out by the root. Also it does not need to be heated so there is no chance to burn the skin, or rip skin off the sensitive layers of the face.

Sports injuries, old and new, can really get in the way. Whether it's creaky knees during yoga, a constant ache in the back, or the sprain that's worse than a break, I have an easy cheap solution----WET ICE. I know---sounds weird, but I got this remedy from a physical therapist that worked on members of Ballet West and the Utah Symphony, and incidentally my mother. She still ices regularly, but not with a cold pack. You just take a wet cloth, line up your ice and apply it to your injury. It penetrates deeper than plain ice to reduce the swelling. I did a back flip in a dance number in a play a few years ago and hyper extended my feet. I was in a lot of pain. I slept all night with the wet ice on my arches and woke up the next day ready to go on stage again that night. It really works---hope it helps you. :)

Tip #3
 When reports came out about aluminum being harmful in anti-perspirant I began a quest to replace the Old Spice deodorant I was using before with something aluminum free---not an easy task. I wanted to avoid Alzheimer's, but it also occurred to me that cutting off the lymph completely couldn't be good for the breast tissue. After stinking up the place for several months I found a combo of natural deodorants that work pretty well. Out of the shower I apply a mineral salt stick while my skin is still wet, when it is dry I follow with Tom's long lasting deodorant. I have used Tom's other formulas as well, but the long lasting one works the best. You can find both at Walgreen's and they are often on sale. Keep in mind that it takes a week or two for your body to adjust to going natural, and you always sweat a little to release toxins from the lymph system. Also I do notice odor when I wear a tight shirt and don't allow the pits to breathe. This is fun to talk about, isn't it? Still I feel it's an important topic because I saw on the news the other night that most malignant growths in the breasts are near the armpits which they attribute to deodorant use. Incidentally, I used to have cystic fibroid lumps in my breasts, which can affect fertility and pregnancy. Now they are completely gone.

Tip #2

I saw on "The Doctors" yesterday that Soda Pop is the number one worst thing to ingest (in their opinion). I shared that with a group of 8/9 year olds today and they were in horror. One little girl asked, "Does that include Root Beer?" Carbonation dissolves acid off a car battery. My husband drank 3 Dr. Peppers at dinner tonight and I was in horror. Luckily Soda Pop is not my vice. I force myself to drink a Coke once a year to avoid being unamerican, but it's not only the caffeine and sugar that is bad---it's the bubbles. Soda's also dehydrate the body which is harmful on so many levels, but water is boring. I came up with an healthy alternative to sodas and sugary drinks for my husband I hope you will enjoy. Fill a 16 oz glass with purified water and add lemon stevia drops or one packet of stevia, and one packet of true lemon (at Harmon's). It's surprisingly refreshing. If you want to take the health benefit one step further add them to decaffeinated green tea. Very soothing before bed without the bitter after taste.

Tip #1
Eye cream is an essential anti-aging treatment. Our thinnest skin is around our eyes, which is why wrinkles appear there first. My fav. eye cream is Arbonne's
